Mom Saves the Day

Saturday night, in the car, on the way home after a long day, BabyPooPoo was fussing. Tim says, "Where's the bottle?"
I say, "It's empty."
He pulls off the highway, stops at a gas station, goes inside with her empty bottle and comes out with a full one.
BabyPooPoo had stopped fussing and had fallen asleep by the time he returned.
We continued driving and arrived home without further fusses.
Upon attempting to transfer her from the car to her crib, she wakes up and begins crying.
I take the bottle and fill it with 3 scoops of golden fluffy soy milk powder. I ritualistically twist the nipple on, place my index finger over the hole, hold it over the sink and proceed to shake the mixture until it is smooth and drinkable. When I take my finger off to relieve the pressure, the milk spurts out. Now, this is normal, except that the spurt lasted for about three times the length that it normally does. I say to Tim, "What the hell is going on with this bottle? It won't stop spurting!"
"Oh, I forgot to tell you it's carbonated water."
"You used CARBONATED water for her bottle!!@#*!"
As I'm dumping it out he replies, "Yeah, that's all they had."
If I had given BabyPooPoo that bottle, you might have been reading an entry entitled "Baby Explodes! Carbonated Water is Culprit"
I have visions of the girl in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory that ate something she wasn't supposed to and blew up like a beach ball and rolled away.
Lesson learned: Always have bottled water in the car for making bottles on the go.
Thinking back on it, I'm glad I didn't go ahead and mix it in the car...that would have been a sight.

Bikini Kill

Lovin' the Water
Originally uploaded by My Daily Struggle.
I have given birth to a fish. She did not fuss once. She did not get cranky or bored. She DID however make noise the entire time (so much noise that the instructor had to yell over her!). At one point they have us take our babies out of the float so that we can lift them up in the air repeatedly for a good arm workout. At that point, Audrey squirmed and wanted me to let her go so that she could swim on her own. I thought about letting her go...just to see what would happen, but I didn't.
Everyone got a kick out of how vocal and fearless she was. Personally, I enjoyed learning some new songs to sing to Pork Pie. It was more fun than a workout, but worth every penny.
I can't wait until next week!

Gulp!

Audrey is fearless. I tried to get a better shot, but this is the best I could do. You might be asking yourself, "What in the world is she doing?" I'll tell you what she's doing. She's putting her face in the water. That's right, by her own free will, she's dunking her head in the water. Sometimes she lifts up her noggin and starts laughing, other times she's choking because she's swallowed some water. None-the-less, she still goes back under. This kid is NUTS!
How appropriate that she started doing this though, we have our first water aerobics class tomorrow morning.
I got her a bikini.
Hey, if I can't ever wear one, at least my child can.

Good Morning Momma!

Momma,
Your hair is a mess and your breath could wilt a flower, but I'm gonna plant one on you anyway. And while I'm at it I'll just try to pinch the skin off your cheek. I could probably fit my whole fist in your nostril, but I'll save that for another day.
Love,
Audrey a.k.a Pork Pie

Happy 8 Months Audrey

Click on picture to view larger size. Daddy picked out her outfit.
Well, it's amazing to me how much you're learning. Every day you surprise me with a new sound or a new trick.
I know it won't be long before you are walking around like E.T., pointing to everything and babbling in your own encrypted language.
You are very hard-headed and often refuse to go to sleep. More often than not, we let you get your way and sleep between us. We'll be cracking down on that come Wednesday, so be prepared. You're rotten, and I love it.
RIGHT NOW...

My favorite thing about you is: that when we DO bring you in to bed with us (around 2 am every morning) you roll over and snuggle up to me and it's almost as if you're spooning me. I love that recognition of being your mommma. It's the greatest feeling in the world. I also love how when we put you in your playpen, you pull yourself up and then proceed to furiously hop up and down. It's one of your favorite things to do! Somehow you know that the stronger your legs are the quicker you'll be walking around on them. Oh yeah, also, the way you chew. I love the faces you make while munching on a cracker. It's like you're an old lady that forgot to put in her dentures.
The most frustrating thing about parenting is: trying to get you to sleep or to stay asleep. You are so afraid you are going to be missing out on something. It's either that or your teeth are about to burst out from under your gums. Sometimes it's frustrating that you're such a wiggle worm, but only when I'm trying to A- get you to sleep or B-change your diaper.
What I'm most looking forward to: our water aerobics class in a few weeks. You love bathy time, so I KNOW you're going to get a kick out of this large heated swimming pool. I'm also looking forward to hearing you say "MaMa". You've got "DaDa" down just fine, as a matter of fact that's all you ever say. How about some variety?
One of the most endearing things you've done lately: Your face when I came home from work, your reaching for me to hold you and your big girl hug once you were in my arms almost made me want to cry. You know who your momma is. What more could I ask for? Oh yeah, for you to say it.
Something you've done that surprised me: You crawled out of your room and into the hallway to come find me. I was on my way to check on you and was shocked to find that you had gotten so far so fast on your hands and knees. I had only left you alone for a couple of minutes. You are one determined chick. I will have to learn to never underestimate or undermine your determination. I will be putting a gate at the top of the stairs immediately.

Sorry that I don't have many pictures for this entry. We have been busy trying to get some things done around the house. We are on a mission.

Tomorrow is Audrey's 8 Month B-day

Tim and I have been very busy this new year. We have vowed to keep a "To-Do" list and a "Household Chores" list. So far, so good.
We insulated the attic this past weekend and have managed to keep our house neat and orderly for a whole week!
This Saturday, we start painting the hallway and the front room. I'm excited to be getting things done, especially since we've been talking about how "WE HAVE TO DO THIS STUFF" for about 2 years now.

Tomorrow's entry will be all about Pork Pie-Piglet-Baby Poo Poo. I cannot believe it's been 8 months. I started scrapbooking again and looking through old pictures...she used to be so tiny. I barely remember her when she was that small. I mean, of course I remember, but it's hard to imagine her as that frail and fragile Blobbers that grunted and squaked like a bird to be fed. Thinking about it just makes me want to have another.

Audrey's First Time in the Grass

Audrey, are you too citified already? What a priss!
I don't have time for a long post, I have a lot to tell you , but I'm headed off to work. I just wanted to share these photos with you.

Watch Out!

She's crawling people.
Tim woke me up on New Year's Eve day by saying, "Hurry! Come quick! She's doing it!" I jumped out of bed half-naked, grabbed the video camera and was on it like a tic.
Granted, she's planted her face on the hardwoods two or three times, but she's getting better.

We had to pack up the co-sleeper because she started pulling herself up in the mornings without making a peep. We'd wake up and find her standing up, staring at us, smiling. So, she's also sleeping in her own room now. She's had a big week, our little Pork Pie (that's the new nickname).

For New Year's we visited with the Shermans, ate pizza, drank champagne at 11 and were home by 11:30. At midnight, the ball dropped and almost simultaneously Tim accidentally kicked a hole in the nursery door. Happy New Year, right?
He was trying to lift the door off it's hinges (in order to fit our newly exchanged glider through the door frame) and while knocking it loose, put his foot right through it. One more thing to fix. The funny thing is, we replaced that door last year! It was the newest in the house.

Tim took down the Xmas decorations today while I was at work. It looks so bleak now. I always get a little depressed this time of year. I can't wait until Spring!

Audrey is on her third and last round of antibiotics. Poor Girl. She's been sick for over a month. The doctor said she's pretty much cleared up, but it's still a little red inside her left ear. Hopefully she'll never get another ear infection.

I'm working on putting together another blog that will have my artwork for sale. Cheap Cheap Cheap. I have to create some additional ways to make money. My job just isn't cutting it. I COULD find a REAL job, but that's no fun.
